TeX Live 2008 - bugs and updates
Please email bug reports or other comments to the tex-live mailing list. See the TeX Live home page for general information and
links.
- In 2008, the installer and the package manager can operate over the Internet. If
you plan to make any updates after your initial installation, please update tlmgr first, by itself. Doing
so will save you considerable trouble.
- The network operations use the auto-redirecting mirror.ctan.org by default. So, if you have
problems downloading, please include the actual url which was
used in your report, otherwise it's unlikely that anything can be done.
You can also explicitly choose a particular CTAN mirror
by using the --location option to the programs.
- The original pdftex binaries for sparc-solaris and powerpc-aix
unfortunately may crash when pdf images are included. New binaries have
been installed in the repository, and you can install them with
tlmgr update pdftex (after updating tlmgr itself). Binaries on other
systems, such as i386-linux, universal-darwin, and win32, do not exhibit
this problem.
- The x86_64-linux binaries are linked against libXau.so. Some
systems, typically Red Hat-based, don't have this shared library. Alternative x86_64-linux
binaries with libXau statically linked are available (thanks to
Zdenek Wagner), although texindy is not included and there may be XeTeX
issues with system fonts when used on newer systems, due to an older
fontconfig library being linked.
- ConTeXt MkIV
with the LuaTeX engine needs separate configuration. Because this
is still undergoing rapid development, it did not make sense to try to
incorporate it into the TeX Live installer.
- Windows-specific problems are described
separately, including fc-cache
failures, and the GUI installer
not opening in Windows 2000.
Newsworthy changes in
this release.
Bug archives for the previous
release and earlier
years are still online.
